Thinking about Unifor?
Think about this…
Unifor is currently talking to Ontario BTS Associates about joining the other 20,000 Bell workers who have made the decision to join Canada’s largest private-sector union and improve their working lives.
You may be asking…
Don’t I deserve the same fair compensation as the Unifor Associates in BTS Quebec?
You should be asking…
Is that ever going to happen without a union?
Thinking about…Pension Contributions?
Quebec Associates receive a 4% company contribution to their RRSPs, whereas Ontario Associates only receive a maximum Company contribution of 2.5%.
Obtaining this improvement alone by joining Unifor would more than pay for your union dues. No union dues are paid until after a collective agreement has been negotiated and accepted and dues are 100%tax deductible.
Thinking about…Wages?
Quebec Associates receive 3 automatic wage increases every year until they reach the top rate. This means that if someone is currently earning $17.50 per hour (the average in Ontario), and they went onto the Unifor Quebec wage schedule today, they would receive over 30% in wage increases ($5.57 per hour) in the first 3 years (February 2015 to February 2018) and a new rate of $23.07 per hour.
In only one more year, they would be at the top rate of $24.49 per hour.
Without a union, you are on your own trying to convince the company to raise your pay. What percentage wage increase have you received in the last 3 years? Is it even close to 30%?
Thinking about…Holidays?
Quebec Associates receive the same 10 statutory holidays as all Unifor members at Bell and BTS. You may recall that BTS Ontario associates also had 10 holidays until BTS
unilaterally removed Family Day in 2011, thereby reducing the total number of holidays for Ontario Associates to 9 days per year.
If Ontario Associates were in Unifor, BTS could no longer remove any holidays or other benefits. With a union, these benefits are always the subject of negotiations.
What can Unifor do for Me?
Well, why not see what we have done for the BTS Associates in Quebec, who decided to join the union many years ago.
Associates in Ontario are just as hard working as those in Quebec. But, unlike other Bell and BTS employees in Ontario, they don’t receive the same fair compensation as their Quebec counterparts.
But today, BTS Associates in Ontario receive significantly less pay and benefits, not to mention fewer workplace rights, than their unionized counterparts in BTS Quebec.
That’s not fair.
Unifor has always ensured through collective bargaining that the compensation for Unifor members who do the same work for the same company is the same in both provinces.
That’s only fair.
