The local Executive is aware of ongoing scheduling issues. As such, we have sent communication to the National and Bargaining Committee who are part of LRC that these issues need to be addressed immediately. We must work hard to ensure scheduling reflects our commitment to a Stress free environment and better focus on work-life balance for all members.

It has been more than four months since 65 women at Port Arthur Health Centre, members of Local 229, first went on strike, protesting low wages and precarious employment conditions. Not only does the employer refuse to negotiate, but they continue to hire scabs with questionable experience and qualifications.
This is a blatant attempt to starve out these striking workers – we are asking for your support to fight against it. This job posting is seeking scabs at the Port Arthur Health Centre. Today we are asking you to take a moment and send in an application. If enough members send in applications we will flood the employer’s inbox and severely hinder the process of hiring scabs.

I am concerned about the dramatically undemocratic actions of Premier Ford through his attack on the people of Toronto and municipalities.
In the middle of the municipal election, he introduced Bill 5. If adopted, this legislation will slash the number of Toronto council seats in half and cancel regional chairperson elections in York, Peel, Niagara and Muskoka, so that Premier Ford can appoint hand-picked chair people instead.
No matter what your opinion is on the size of council, some facts cannot be ignored. The democratically-elected Toronto City Council voted against this plan already, and it was rejected in court challenges, twice. Yesterday, Ford refused to answer opposition questions on the legislation that will affect the city’s close to 3 million residents. There has been no consultation on this change. There is no mandate for this unprecedented attack on municipal democracy.
Will you come to Queen’s Park tomorrow and show Premier Ford just how strong Troonto’s opposition is?
