NEW CBA ratification – Retro pay for wages and Per Diem

Sisters and Brothers

Many of you have reached out regarding retroactive pay for wages…the bargaining committee has dealt with the issue.

Many technicians on loan may have not received the new Per Diem rate while on loan out of their common locality for hotel stays since ratification of the CBA in Ontario, this has also been addressed with the company and bargaining committee for resolve.

Note – A communication from HR quoted below was sent on June 14 2022

”

To: All team members in Ontario
From: The Human Resources team
Hello,

As a result of the renewal of the Collective Agreement in Ontario, we would like to inform you that the salary and daily allowance increases related to transfers for technicians, logistics attendants and cable pullers will take effect on July 6 and be paid retroactively to May 8.

We will continue to keep the team informed as more changes are implemented and will provide a grid with the respective timelines.

Please note that the bargaining process for the Collective Agreement in Québec does not affect the renewal of the Collective Agreement in Ontario.

Thank you.

The Human Resources team “

TUMS vehicle utilization program

Sisters and Brothers 1996-O

We have received numerous questions and concerns over the use of the company vehicle TUMS process as of late.

We have addressed this with the company and identified circumstances in relation to the policy and limits for driving distances that technicians have encountered.  If you are driving further or being asked to commute further then what is in the Arbitration award please speak to your manager and union Steward for clarification.

Below is a link to the award, it is advised that you read the full award.

CRTC imposes $7.5 million in penalties on Bell Canada

Source: https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/crtc-imposes-7-5-million-in-penalties-on-bell-canada-for-violations-of-canada-s-telecommunications-act-812474218.html

OTTAWA, ON and GATINEAU, QC, June 15, 2022 /CNW/ – Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)

Today, the CRTC announced that it has imposed a total of $7.5 million in penalties on Bell Canada for three violations of the Telecommunications Act.

The CRTC found that Bell Canada denied permit applications for access to its telephone poles from Videotron, its main competitor in Quebec. As a result, Videotron was not able to access Bell Canada’s poles, which delayed its network deployment and created a competitive advantage for Bell Canada.

The CRTC’s decision issued today sets the penalties for these three violations of the Telecommunications Act at $2.5 million each.

Independent internet service provider challenging Bell over Fibe trademark

Source: Toronto Star https://www.thestar.com/business/2022/06/14/independent-internet-service-provider-challenging-bell-over-fibe-trademark.html

OAKVILLE, Ont. – Independent telecom provider SkyChoice Communications Inc. is challenging Bell Canada, owned by BCE Inc., in the Federal Court of Canada over the name of its fibre optics network more than a decade after it launched Fibe.

SkyChoice says the telecom giant’s branding strategy that shortens the spelling of fibre hinders the ability of independent internet service providers (ISPs) to compete because the term fibre optics has become a key selling point when marketing fast and reliable internet.
